Should I create alt text for documents too

I am updating a client’s website. I am currently going through the Media Library and adding any missing alt text to all *images* (jpg, png etc). Should I be doing the same for PDFs and other documents? No clear or immediate answer to this on Google or ChatGPT, oddly.
