You know what the review will be about, as many previously great plugins fell victim to this trend.

At its core, this is/was a handy plugin, with a good UI, and a reasonably priced premium upgrade, with useful features. Which actually keep getting better.

However, over time the plugin got increasingly monetized, ads got increasingly aggressive, and changes were made to benefit company profit, not the user.

Any plugin that abuses notifications to show ads gets a 1 from me, sorry. And no, there is no option to turn these off besides editing the plugin source, which would lock you out of updates, or developing a blocker, which you then have to maintain as the plugin adds new ads.

    Hi @johnweisz!

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

We acknowledge your preference for fewer ads in the free plugin. Yoast SEO exhibits a limited set of ads/notifications in specific backend areas. We made sure that these particular ads and notifications are placed in areas that should not hinder your normal use of the plugin.
As you mentioned, you have the option to disable the ads in the Yoast SEO plugin by modifying the plugin code (either by editing the plugin files yourself or using a third-party plugin) or by opting for Yoast SEO Premium.
