Creates fake comments – not recommended!

I had Akismet Anti Spam run over more than a year and it “found” hundreds of spam comments. I was wondering the whole time why I never found one of it in my spam folder.
A couple of months ago I deinstalled it. I was just curious to see, what kind of “spam comments” I was saved for. Since then not even one spam comment happened.My conclusion: Akismet is creating fake messages to make itself feel more “worthy”. Not recommended!

Akismet does not create fake comments. The plugin source code is available and anyone is welcome to confirm that there is nothing in it that would do this.
It’s possible that you had the “Silently discard the worst and most pervasive spam so I never see it.” setting enabled; this catches the spam but doesn’t put it in your spam folder, which saves resources on your server and avoids possible exposure to the worst spam.
